Mike Denbee is a very mobile hard working talented flanker. He was brought up playing for Weston super Mare and Captaining Somerset in the County Championship. He completed his studies at Plymouth University in the summer of 2008 and made his 1st XV debut for Plymouth Albion in the same year, he went on to be named young player of the year in 2008. Mike has appeared for England Students and England Counties and is looking to concentrate on his Rugby career for the foreseeable future with aspirations to play at the highest level.
He is accomplished in all three back row positions and has high physical standards. He is an accomplished tail end jumper giving an option for a full lineout strategy. Highly rated by MC Sports their is every likelihood that this talented player will play at high levels in the game. Mike accepted an offer for the 2009 -2010 season from Spanish Premiership Club CR La Villa coached by former Cornish Pirates Head Coach Mark Hewitt. He demonstrated that he was one of the top back row players in Spain regularly outperforming NPC and International Players. His work rate, turn over ability and physicality has meant that Mike is a player that every Coach seeks to have available to him. It also gave him the chance to mature greatly as a player by being a key figure in a professional organisation.
Mike committed to Birmingham for the 2010-2011 season and in January 2011 after a run of impressive personal displays was named Captain of Bees by Head Coach Russell Earnshaw himself a former Premiership Back Row Player. He responded by putting in a particularly impressive display both as a player and as a captain in leading Bees to a bonus point win against high riding Doncaster and continued to perform to very high standards. Bees Coach Russell Earnshaw feels he can play at the highest level.
We are pleased to announce that Mike has signed to London Welsh for the 2011-2012 season.
Phil Greening ex England and British Lions, Former Head Coach London Welsh "Mike is a typical rugged West Country Back Row Player. If I played against him in my time he would have irritated me no end. Thats what a Back Row is all about, I certainly feel he can go further by playing in the Premiership."
