Lancashire
Lancashire Player of the Year 2006
Adam Newton is a live wire Flanker who has played in the Premiership for Sale Sharks and has 100 Championship appearances with his home town club Sedgley Tigers RFC. He is a very good all round back row player who prides himself on conditioning which enables him to work extremely hard around the pitch offensively carrying the ball and defensively filling in defensive lines and making first up tackles. He always has a high tackle count and has the ability to turn ball over giving his colleagues every opportunity to counter attack. Equally comfortable as either an Open or Blindside Flanker he also has the ability to help out small squads by playing at No8.
Adam signed as a full time professional player with VRAC in the Spanish Premiership for the 2009 -2010 season. VRAC have in the past won both the Spanish Championship and the Copa del Rey de Rugby. This season Adam has been the main stay of a VRAC side that has competed with the top sides in Spain with notable victories over El Salvador, Madrid and CR La Villa. He has also been significant player in their march to the Cop Del Rey Final for the first time in over 10 years. Adam has been a good source of lineout for VRAC and is a comfortable lineout jumper. He has impressed the VRAC Coaching Staff with his conditioning and conduct as a professional player. He is also able to fully converse in Spanish. Adam is open minded to consider offers for the 2010 – 2011 season.
Adam - "I am excited about the opportunity to be a professional player in Europe and to experience life in a different country. Sedgley Tigers were very good to me and I enjoyed my time with them. All the staff at MC Sports have been very supportive and I want to thank them for their advice and professionalism. I am looking forward to a career in Spain or Europe over the next few years."
